Yesterday, I had a chance to have lunch at Outback Steakhouse for an event introducing their new "Red, White, and Bloomin'" menu for the month of March.
Anything ordered off the new menu will have some of the proceeds donated to Operation Homefront, a non-profit organization that provides help and support services for military and their families
Outback has committed to $1 million and I can only hope they'll give even more. Interesting fact I learned about Outback: their employees regularly volunteer for overseas tours where they set up Outback Steakhouses in war zones in order to provide the troops a great meal and a taste of home while they are deployed. I had never heard of this before and while I see it as a great marketing benefit to Outback, I also think it's one if the coolest things I've ever heard. Imagine being in Afghanistan, far from home, and having a sit down meal with your guys and ordering a Bloomin' Onion! Good work Outback!
Oh yeah, the photo...cuts of sirloin, ribeye, chicken, ribs, and shrimp piled high on a plate and served family style for troops, wounded warriors, local civic leaders, and the business community to help spread the word about the new menu. Thanks Outback and Operation Homefront. It was delicious and we had a great time.
If you're in the military, bring your ID during the month of March and get a free Bloomin' Onion!
Living in San Antonio, with it's large military presence I get to see a lot of the wonderful things that are being done to help the troops - both as a simple "thank you" and to help them and support them as they return to the States. My father served in Vietnam and it makes me quite proud to see how people have really gotten over the "right or wrong" arguments when it comes to supporting the men and women of our armed forces. Feel how you want about war, but these people deserve the love and support of their communities. I know I wouldn't have the guts to do it.
