Joe Ferrara: Of Loss and "Friends"

    Img_0296

Losing someone is never easy.  Today, the real estate industry mourns the loss of Joe Ferrara (@jfsellsius).

I never met Joe in person, but I know him through the online world of "friends" and "follows."  I've spoken many times about the interesting connection one can make with a complete stranger via social media and Joe is one such person.  I don't think we ever even traded tweets or emails, but I know Joe very well.  I read his Sellsius blog quite often and through it got to know a man who fought to make the real estate industry better for the consumer and the agents that populate it.  To me, this will be Joe's legacy.  Through stories of personal encounters to reading the posts he wrote, I know I missed out on meeting a man who would have had a profound effect on my career - I plan to make that happen in his absence.

To the Ferrara family - my heart is with you during the coming days.  You have a large family outside of blood relatives and friends you know personally.  The members of the real estate community has proven time and time again that they are they for the support of those who have touched us in one way or another.  Joe is no different.  I extend my condolences to all of you, as well as a helping hand if and when you need it.  I am not alone in this - there are many of us who are today saying a prayer for you all and thinking of you.  I never met Joe, but I know I would have loved every second of it and would have walked away a better agent and a better person.  Thank you for sharing him with all of us over the years - agents like me appreciate it more than you can imagine.

PS I reserve a special hatred for cancer in my heart.  It has claimed the lives of one too many and affected countless others.  We will find a cure someday so that families do not have to struggle with the pain and heartbreak of the most evil of diseases.  I hate you cancer (and I don't hate much in life).
